Flight Of Eagles
A very readable history of the birth of the Kosciuszko Squadron during the Polish-Soviet war 1919-21.
Formed by American volunteer pilots (none of whom had Polish family ties or even spoke the language) and initially equipped with salvaged German aircraft they contributed substantially to the survival of the new Polish State. This book will make it absolutely clear why there are so many kits of the otherwise obscure Ansaldo Balilla and Albatros (ÖFF AG) D.III. Descriptions of the sorties will also give some insight into the Polish mis-preparation for the airwar to come in 1939. ISBN 88498-022-7 Unfortunately there seems to have only been one printing in 1974, and prices vary widely from different online sources.

I picked mine up on a whim on eBay. It would be worth keeping an eye open for another copy.
Just noticed I left out the authors' names. Robert F Karolevitz and Ross S Fenn Published by Brevet Press Alibris has numerous listings starting at about $15

Looks like a great read with lots of information. I'll check Alibris -- my favorite source for out of print books.
