1945 Imperial Japan Tank Tecnology Handbook for sale

戦車技術教程・特編 岡田資編纂(陸軍戦車学校長)非売 陸軍戦車学校 昭和15年 : 古書 古群洞 [email protected]

Judging from the sample pages Japan's tank technology lagged behind its opponents.

I guess there is a reason to this, they found there is little use of advanced tank technology if they couldn't land enough of their tanks on the pacific islands in the first place. And conversely, if they could stop their enemies from doing so, they wouldn't need to field much tanks themselves to secure a victory.

If you look to the later vehicles they had some decent research and experiment into what would have been fairly useful against the Russians in mainland Asia. They were of course, much too late.

Certainly, especially mid-to-end WWII. The expected theater of operations (mostly jungle and small islands) probably influenced the lack of interest in advanced/more powerful designs. On the other hand, at the first phase of the war, their strategy and tactics often surprised the enemy with tanks appearing at the least expected places.
