Very nice, excellent examples of expert work...

Excellent examples, however, I would be hesitant to refer to them as, "paper models" because technically, they are, "mixed medium models" with a base model of paper.

Either way, phenomenal examples..

Yes, he appears to be an experienced model.
But it looks like all self-promotion (past the early pages of paper modeling history).
Apparently all the models shown are his creations.

So is he showing you how to build his models or just saying "look what I done"?

And yet, not a single model in the book for you to build?
I would have included a few freebies.
Maybe I should put out a book? hmmmm

Lets face it, at this point, we've discussed everything on this forum and others.
Unless I was supporting a designer I knew, I really don't need a book of this sort.
And I'm not sure it's much good for a beginner.

Nothing wrong with the author showing his models exclusively, pretty common in crafting manuals. AK comissioned this to demonstrate the use of their paint and weathering products and to show they can be used effectively in paper modelling. So it's likely that they asked Michael Traj to produce some modified builds specifically to use these, rather than just any pictures of completed models they had.
A digital copy (ebook) is available if shipping costs would be prohibitive.
Personally I am glad that a respected company is promoting the use of paper/card. From my time at model shows many people are still totally unaware of it as a medium, let alone the results that can be achieved.

Agree, most of the authors on this page, self promote their models and their sites and freebees....great that their is a growing selection of authors that create books and their own models.
so if self promotion of a book, showing his work is fround upon, then every model maker should not be doing the same.
The post was to highlight a new book, just like a new kit....buy it if you wish or not, but it gives people options.

Really Dave? dont you do the same "look what i done?" when you release your board games, or great models....you provide a service but he provides one also...so give the guy some credit, and maybe ..yes do your own book, we would love to see it... we appreciate your work and i have supported you work for years. i find you kits great to build and a challenge, but a book is easier than searching the forum. i have seen the book apart from the preview but looks like a good resource for all levels..

My board games? Whats that got to do with this topic?
I design tabletop games because it's something that interests me and I 'release' them because there is a market for indy game designers.
No, I don't post them here or anywhere and say "look what I done".
My board games have little to do with this thread or paper modeling in general.

The book was originally presented as a how-to book, or so I thought at first.
My bad.

The book is called Paper Model Techniques.
But as I read further, it seemed to be self promotion on the part of AK paints and this model builder (who's models are paper based instead of plastic)

Sure, I self promote here, when I put out a new model kit.
But I don't charge you for the self promotion.

I also don't claim to be "perhaps the most talented artist in this branch of modeling."
As this guy does.
(I found this a bit insulting.)

Its not a tutorial book, and it's not a book detailing how to build a specific model.
It's not really a "paper model techniques" book (in my opinion).
Its actually just another paint and weathering techniques book, but the models happen to be paper based.
Obviously the "techniques" relate to the use of AK paints and as it says "no different in quality from the best plastic modelers, and the painting and weathering techniques are often shared between both fields."

Yes, any modeler or designer has every right to put out any book they want.
I apologize if I wrongly criticised that right.
Thats not what my comments were about.

I'll amend my statement.
The beginning of this thread asked "any thoughts?"(on a book called Paper Model Techniques).
My thought..."it's not a book about (in general) paper modeling techniques".

ok dave thanks, but all artists and designers self promote. YEt you give a lot of you stuff for free and we appreciate it, but his work has merrit for some and for other it may no. But all should get credit where credit is due. Lots of people may not like your work or desings and may tell you so.
I think we should give everyone regardless of skills the credit they deserve, that is all i am saying.

self promotion is the name today..instagram, tiktok, FB, ect all are places to show off your work...and yes its showing off your hobby for like and shares. good or bag.

anyway i dont want to cause any issues but i just wanted to share this book, and get though and open discussion.
thanks

This look very well thought out and photographed. I think I'll order the paper copy from the AK Interactive website. I couldn't find the digital edition on Google Play but it looks so nice that I think it's worth having physical edition for the coffee table.
