Mike...Dates:
the standard Holidays as on any Calendar,
but it occured to me that around the world, calendar Holidays would vary.
I'd love to see just the major Holidays that everyone would recognize or that are important to different regions...

I'm not sure we should try to cover all religious days though, maybe leave that for your local Calendar?

anything model/hobby related is a must I think (if it can be done)
thats what this Calendar is supposed to be about, right?

Moon Cycles...I can do the little icon picture for the four phases okay?
Just give me all the dates.

Pictures...I did a bunch more tonight...looks like I can probably get all those sorted out.
So, unless you have a specific model/post nomination...

Hi Dave,

That is why I posted the Boxing Day/Thanksgiving. Like I said New Years and Possibly Christmas are a given. But, after thinking it over, all the other calendars show them already. Maybe we should just concentrate on Papermodel specific dates instead.

Trying to sort thru all the holidays of different nations could take awhile! If we miss any, someone might feel left out.

If anyone has specifc holidays they would like to see added, it might be easier to ask for them to be posted in this thread?.

Shouldn't be an issue trying to find the Lunar Cycles. I'll do a search month by month to list them.

Regards,
Mike

so, can you come up with enough dates (say, at least 2 per month) that have some connection to paper modelling?

if so, we could definitely ignore all other dates on the Calendar,
and make it strictly a "paper modelers calendar".

Although there are many, like myself, who hang a Calendar up to record all those important dates
...and we sometimes expect to see those dates already marked.
So if we don't have enough paper modelers dates,
then we have to consider the standard and most common days.

What about posting a basic list of common Calendar dates?
...you could start with the standard North American Calendar, which usually has the US and Canadian dates on it.

Then its up to other members to offer up the additional dates they want added.
Unless it gets totally out of hand, I don't mind putting all the dates in (as long as they are listed for me).

so, try the paper modelers dates first and lets see how many you can come up with.

Hi Dave,

Just started a new thread asking for dates that members know of in their local areas.

Looks like Holidays won't be needed.

Found some dates for the UK IPMS meets.

Once I find a contact point for the IPMS that can give me more information, I'm sure we can fill the calendar with enough to drop the holidays.

What is the deadline to get the dates to you?

D**** the torpedos, ramming speed....

Best regards,
Mike Bauer

deadline?...now

I am working to get this project done as fast as possible.
I enjoy doing this stuff, but I also overextend myself every time I come up with these ideas! lol
so not only would members appreciate a 2011 Calendar before january runs out!
...but I would prefer to get it done and over with asap.

Not much input here...either members are still not back from Holidays
or just not interested in getting involved.

and thats cool...all members are welcome just to wait for the finished product, I have no problem with that.

But, if members want to see certain things added to the Calendar, like Dates, Lunar Cycles, Holidays, etc, they do need to speak up.

Mike, you are suggesting that Holidays are not needed?
What about the basic, worldwide Holidays?
I'm not sure what they would be...but there must be some common dates?
Are Christmas and Easter too religious? and too obvious?

What about remembarnce days, memorial days, veterans days?

I love the idea of just Modeling related dates though...that sounds cool to me.

Just my thoughts:
- weeks and weekly holidays (sat and sun propably applies in most of the countries)
- X-mas, Easter, April Fools Day and First of May the kind of stuff that applies most of us
... and that's it. Otherwise we run into troubles (so many moving things etc.).

I'd love to have a plain calendar showing hor many days there are in a month (having trouble to remember and I'm 53), what weekdays they are (allways a puzzle for me) and when to start waiting my Holidays (First of May for summer break and when I turn December on). And all that filled with great photos of fellow modelers to give joy to every day. Simple man, simple needs.

Hi Dave,
Since we are getting accepted into the IPMS as A SIG-thinking that their meets would create more attendence if we list em.

Modelperry has given me a link that has 75 model shows from Jan thru Nov 2011.

If we include Christmas wouldn't we also have to include Jewish holidays?

Vetran days would be cool, but if we missed one, someone will feel left out.

How would it be best to find this info for each Country that has one? Same issue for Independence days, Memorial dates etc...

New years is the only real non-religous day that everybody celebrates. Except we would need to add the Chinese New Year date too. What other holidays does the world celbrate at the same time?

Sent you a email with the Lunar Cycles from Jan 2011 thru Dec 2012.

Looking and asking for help for contact points, info etc..Been busy, busy!

Another avenue might be to list any organizations that have model displays, that we could show papermodels at-AMA flyins is what I'm leading up too.

I have been in contact with an AMA representative about other things, Pulsejet Project is stirring all kinds of interest...

Almost asked you if the deadline was 2-days ago... I knew better though-LOL!

Mike

you are right, lets keep the Calendar "International" by ignoring the common Holidays and religious days.

Focusing on Modeling related dates is good.
Although I wouldn't want a Calendar full of plastic model related dates.
The dates have to have some connection with paper modeling too.

Lunar Cycles is good...they are the same everywhere (on Earth) right?

Not sure about April Fools Day? lol Tappi
...and what is May 1st?

Agreed, lets not insult anyone, by naming Memorial dates and then forgetting any.

What about fun dates instead?
I mean things like:
"the birthdate of the guy who invented Glue Sticks",
or "the day Cutting Mats were created"
or "" the anniversary of the flight of the first paper airplane"

Great ideas I'll see what I can find, is Friday too late to call it a final?

Gives me a little time to find all of this!

May first is Mayday-isn't that for Russia? Not sure but it seems so...

I agree about teh plastic stuff, but they have invited us as a SIG to display our models, if we are to advance the hobby, your calendar idea is a Number 1 tool/way to do this! After thinking it over, it is a must have-You are a Genius for thinking of it!

Going to have to check my book of lists to see what I can find-maybe the Guiness world record site too.

Best regards,
Mike
