I really enjoyed "The White Rose".

For sheer entertainment my favorite is "Where Eagles Dare" Great soundtrack and great action.

Also "Paths of Glory" with Kirk Douglas.

On the flip side, I hated "a thin Red Line" and didn't care much for "Perl Harbor" either. "Tora Tora Tora!" was so much better then "Perl Harbor".

Enemy at the Gates, I found, was a great experience to watch. The sniper duel between the antagonist at the end was intense!

My pick, a Japanese film "Otokotachi no Yamato" (The Men of Yamato). About a survivor of Yamato now a fisherman ask by a woman( descendant of another survivor) to take her to the spot where Yamato sank so she can honor her father wish to scatters his ashes at the site so her father can be bury with his shipmates.

The production built a 1:1 scale of the battleship Yamato set from the bow to about mid section, a very impressive movie set. For Yamato fan like me, just have to see it. The subtitle DVD is out for sometime now but still available for mail order.

Defiance is good.

Enemy at the Gates was OK, but I personally don't believe the whole Major Konig story, and think it was just Soviet Propaganda, as there are no records of such a sniper in german files, especialy not one that had a school in Berlin. Great movie, still.

Some I like are, The Battle of Britain,Spitfires,Hurricanes and Heinkel's Oh my,plus one of the more quotable scripts,"Don't you yell at me Mr Warwick!".
A Bridge to far, epic telling of Market Garden,
Das Boot a classic
Max Manus, the story of a member of Norways resistance fighters.
Beneath Hill 60, WW1 story of the tunnel war, where huge amounts of explosives were placed under the trenches of the German forces
and one of the stranger ones,Oh What a Lovely War,the futility of WW1 in song and dance. The songs of the Tommie's used to convey the attitudes of the time.

Not a "war" action movie but I love "The Bedford Incident" and "Fail Safe".
