Doolittle Raiders final public reunion
The final reunion of the Doolittle Raiders was yesterday - 4 of the original 80 still survive, 3 made it to the reunion - all are in their '90s, and in remarkable shape. Here is a great link to the event, with a video. Very nice story and video. Famed members of the World War II Doolittle Bombing Raid on Tokyo hold final public reunion | Fox News

These guys were true heroes. I guess someone should design the USS Hornet with all the B-25 bombers on deck just to honor them.

Now that's an idea.

Thanks for sharing the news story. My son and I got to meet Lt. Col. Richard Cole at the local model convention. We donated a small amount of money to the organization he was representing, Lt. Col. Cole gave us a lithograph of the lead aircraft (Tail No. 02344) which he then autographed. As soon as I find a frame for it, it's going in the wall.

Wonderful story. That footage of B-25 taking off from the flight deck is simply awesome. It was an absolutely essential mission in terms of symbolism, and it was nothing short of a little triumph.
While celebrating the heroes, let's also spare a thought for the civilians who bear the brunt of war. Following the raid, the Japanese army killed some 250 000 Chinese civilians in retaliation for providing shelter to the downed airmen. Zhejiang-Jiangxi Campaign - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
