Sun Prairie Youth Cycling Team

The Red Fury! Thats them, a bunch of wacko kids in the woods on bikes. I am sponsoring their time in their inaugural year

Had our first trip out today. I NEVER mountain biked before.... crashed three times, my son rather enjoyed that.... Note to self. A commuter bike with slick tires DOES NOT work for mountain biking. Time to shop...

What fun! Not the crashing though .

Careful with the crashing....my sister broke her collarbone once crashing on a bike trail.

Slick looking jerseys. I think the Ecardmodels logo needs to be a bit bigger

Chris,

Great to hear about you taking up a great activity!

Love to mountain bike year round!

A set of Mythos tires will cure the fall down symptoms....Ok, not really, but they will at least get you to the next crash in an upright position!!!

One big note on mountain biking...: Get a good bike or you will pay more for doctor bills because of riding on a cheap bike!

I have a x-ray photo to prove what that means......... Surgeon called it a, "trophy X-ray.".

I've been to Sun Prairie, I used to live about 3 hours north of it.

Hi Chris,

Take your time when buying. Not all bikes are worth the money. Many of the bike magazines do a yearly product review, it might be wise to look through one and see what is available for the type of riding you want to do.

I've had 4 different full suspension and 3 differernt front shock only bikes.

I prefer the full suspension.

One big, expensive (doctor wise), lesson was that oil and air in a shock works better than a piece of rubber. The rubber has a bad habit of bouncing the front tire up and down out of rythm with the trail, at speed I've had the front tire in the air when needing to do a sharp turn. Rocks, horse hoof prints, old water ripples, tree roots, etc. can cause the rubber bumper to not work properly.

When trail riding, be sure to take some tools with you, a first aid kit too!!!

Mountain bike trail riding is one of my favorite things to do. One big issue here in ALaska: You have to take bear protection.

It is very smart to take some lessons if they available, locally.

One big thing that people do when coasting: they coast with their feet on the pedals, with one pedal at the bottom, one at the top. The low pedal can catch objects and cause a very serious crash! Always do your coasting with the pedals horizontal!!!

Mike
