Toward the Unknown

Just saw part of an old movie last night from 1956 that centered around test aircraft at Edwards AFB. It mainly featured the Bell X-2, but also had the XB-51 as well as some cameos of the then new F-100, F-101, and B-66. Also saw an F-84F, F-94 and a P-80. Some nice glimpses of prop planes as well (ex. A-26). The movie was a bit hokey but it was cool to see some of the planes in flight.

One of those films made in the 50s with the support of the Air Force.
Really nice to see real planes, real footage, real settings.
Except for the fake Gilbert XF-120...actually the failed Martin B51.

This film is important because the story deals with the issues of Mental Illness
and the unknown effects of PTSD.
Unfortunately, it didn't inspire much support of these issues at the time.

The film gets a lot of praise, although it wasn't one of my favorites.
I never found William Holden very believable.
