Beware Latest Windows 10 Upgrade
My machine yesterday upgraded to a higher Windows 10 version - and it took forever.
It is quite a big upgrade as there appear to be some significant changes. My machine is now a lot slower, but it seems to be picking up again as I use it. Time will tell. However, three things to note....... 1. The upgrade started unannounced and I was unable to prevent it implementing. So if this happens to you just go with the flow! 2. More serious is the fact that Windows uses your machine now on a "peer to peer" basis to upgrade other machines in the net - this chomps your bandwidth, so you need to turn this feature off. I picked this up purely because I monitor bandwidth and thought I had a virus as I do not use peer to peer programs. You can switch this feature off however, so do this now. If you don't then I assume you have money to throw away! Rather than me explain (I don't get paid by Windows and they waste enough of my time already), here is a pretty decent clear explanation of how to do it..... How to stop Windows 10 from using your PC's bandwidth to update strangers' systems | PCWorld 3. Lastly it quite merrily went ahead and deleted automatically apps it said "were not compatible". Again this process cannot be stopped.

Thanks for the heads up. I checked my W10 machine and saw that I had that P2P crap turned off. I vaguely remember going through a bunch of hoops to disable or turn off a bunch of automatic BS that MS deemed necessary to maintain control of reality when I upgraded that machine to W10.
Since I leave that machine turned off until I need to use it W10 last updated on 10 Jan and now it is going through an update that looks to take several hours to complete.

And, if you are like me, with a limited amount of data (monthly),
then these things are not only annoying, but downright illegal! Microsoft is spending my money without my knowledge or consent. I will run Win7 until I can't...and then I'll go with another OS. Already have Ubuntu installed. Time to see what programs will work with it!

win 95, win 98, win 7, or even 8.
windows 10 took away every thing I loved about those above and gave me un-needed complications. EDGE browser wont even update flash player. I dream about putting bill gates in a bag and throwing him off the bridge in to the river. our poor dead friend steven did almost everything to make sure he kept his grubby paws off. BG reminds me of the moron in quest for fire, everytime he gets the fire log , he puts it back to win 3.1 |

Airdave, there is a setting in downloads that let's you go to more of a manual setting if you have a metered internet.
I hate that bit were if its not an acceptable software to Microsoft (I guess that means open source especially that you didn't buy from them) it tries to delete it. Been fighting with it on Pepakura...and still can't get it to recognize my camera so when I plug it in Autoplay opens up and I just download, have to jump through Microsoft Cloud hoops. Much preferred W7 and liked W95 even better. |

OK. I have been struggling with slow Internet.
Here is the fix I found - best of the lot. Slow Internet After Windows 10 Update? Here's the Fix -iTechify I guess like me you will have the home Windows version (the free one) so you will have to install a file. It is safe. Do it and follow the instructions. Read the chaps post carefully WITHOUT DOING IT first so you understand what to do. Download the file and install and copy but don't close the dialogue box until you have files copied over - see the instructions re this. I did and had to fix it! Read the instructions carefully!
