Photobucket now charges for embedding images

I think it was always that way
...and that is why it was always recommended that you make your albums private.
Public uploads were subject to photobucket selling your images on plaques, mugs, etc.
So, in a sense, your uploads became their property.

Well I got a notification of this in my mailbox today.
Indeed all my buildpics are gone and replaced with the upgrade image.. Very nice! 😒

Here is some important information for photobucket users!:

I sent a message/support ticket asking when and if my images would be blocked.
I also commented (negatively) on the recent changes
and suggested my recent re-subscription was a waste of money.

I have not received a response, but this(below) was added to the Help FAQs in the last 24-48 hours.
(at least thats what I think, since I didn't see it before):

What Users Are Affected By The Changes To Our 3rd Party Hosting Policies?
Moving forward, new and legacy free account users will NOT have third party
hosting available.

If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017,
you will continue to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd
Party Hosting until December 31, 2018 as long as you maintain your
subscription.

Non Plus 500 Account subscribers that purchased after June 1, 2017 will not
have access to 3rd Party Hosting.

I happen to be a "Plus Account" subscriber, even though my Plus account appears to have been discontinued,
and my account is good until April 2018.

I doubt that I will be resubscribing at that time (not for $400 anyway)
so I will need to start hosting my images elsewhere in preparation for whats to come.
And I will start changing photos wherever I can.
In the meantime, enjoy my photobucket images until then because I can't edit old posts here.

I stumbled across a post on a forum today, you should be able to see the photos instead of the photobucket icon.
This might be a fix for certain users:

Photobucket to post photos on favorite forums...they converted over to being a pay service, they are demanding $399 a year to continue using their service.

If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, slide over and click on "Extensions". Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions." In the search box, type "Photobucket Fix," and hit Enter. Three versions of this service appear...chose the first one. Click the install button and once it's done, you should be able to see Photobucket pictures again on the forums where you saw the dreaded box.

For FireFox users, click on the three bars on the right side of the screen, then click on "Add Ons". Click search for "Photobucket hotlink" and click Install. Same result.

yeah, we actually shared this add-on a while back.
I have had it on my Chrome and Firefox browsers for some time.
It works.

But for how long? (was the question when it first came out).

I'm sure photobucket isn't pleased about this add-on, so I can see them creating a fix for the fix.

Having said that, I have found a number of forums where the 'fix" isn't working.
I have not been able to figure out why.
As I said, the fix is working on this forum and many others.
But here, at modelismo en papel it is not working (for me).

Of course I could be wrong, but on those sites that the fix doesn't work on, the site has probably removed their pictures from PB and closed their account. There are some threads on PM that this has happened, but my fix seems to work on many others. Myself, I requested and received a complete download of my pictures, but I did not close my account. So all my pictures should still be available to anyone using a 'fixed' browser.

I doubt that this situation will remain for too long though, 'cos there's no way I'm paying their ransom fee.

That's funny.
Last week I couldn't see the same images from the Spanish forum.
But today I woke up and I can see them normally thanks to fix that was installed months ago in my browser.
