hey guys i need some advice.my camera that i muse for models has packed a sad and i dont know why or if its repairable. Its a sony digital which is around 15 years old.last night i went out for meal.tried to take some photos in house before going out and it would not work.so bought some new batteries, put them in and drove 15 minutes to resturant.when i went to take camera out of pocket it was hot to the touch.only cooled down when i tool out batteries.symbol on screen showed battery symbol with lightning flash through it.after camera cooled i put batteries back in and it imediatly heated up again.this are lithium batteries.took them out. and gave up.this morning i notice battteries are damaged and swollen.i know there have been instances of lithium battery fires but im more worried i have fried my camera.any serious thoughts would be helpfull.dont know if its economical to get repaired or whether to bite bullet and buy a new one
thanks

It would be better to buy a new camera than to repair one that is 15 years old. Especially if its a 15 year old point and shoot type camera which Sony may not even repair anymore.

Replace the camera.
Research on the Internet looking at reputable brands - Canin and Nikon are the best currently for Compact Cameras. And don't let a salesman talk a hole in your head! Make a decision or have options before you go into a shop!

Ditto to what all have expressed above.
15 years is a lot of time for a digital camera. Components have aged inside, and may be prone to short-circuit in some areas. Specially if it hasn't been opened and serviced to preventive cleaning. Does it use "AA" batteries? That's also old enough. Consider buying a new camera. "Compact" and "entry level" cameras nowadays are very advanced and incredibly better than old compact cameras, while still being affordable. Even some modern cell-phones have much better specifications than many old digital cameras. Read reviews, ask for advice to friends who have cameras -5 years old, and go to the shop with something already in mind. Beware there's "Canon" people and "Nikon" people that will always fight for their brand. It is not much the brand that matters (technology is more or less equal), but what do you really need from a camera?

Phone camera?
Do you not have a phone camera? Most phone cameras today are better than any hi-end compact camera from 15-20 years ago!
