UHU - So is this the elixer of the Modeling Gawds
Just had Amazon smuggle this thru their secret tunnel to me past Greenpeace. Sure does smell a lot like the ol' Ambroid we sniffed, er I mean used, to build stick & tissue planes back in the day. Any Caveat Emptors about using it? Thought I might send a tube to Rata so he can do his usual taste test...

Hope it works for you - some people swear by it.
For paper modeling, I personally loathe it - all stringy etc. Each to his own though!

I have a love-hate relationship with it....
Love its great bouquet... But I have never made it work properly with paper. Hard to apply. And it is very aggressive with some inks if the paper has not been properly protected. I'm still amazed when modelers say they can use it. As for me...

I bought the two-tube set from Indonesia via Amazon. Great for some things, but I haven't yet learned how to deal with the strings.
If you break the code on its effective use, please tell all. Don |

Those who do swear by (not at) it say little else besides they use it with no problem.

Hi guys, I’m one of those who prefer UHU. Just came accross this interesting discussion and will drop some of my experiences tomorrow when I have more time at hand. Typing text from a smartphone is not my cup of tea and besides that, it’s getting late....

I was brought up on UHU in the 1960's (it was the glue recommended by J F Schriber) and have been using it ever since. I have are two ways of working with it:
1) For joins that will not be under stress just smear a little glue on one part and immediately marry the two parts together. The glue will grab but the nature of the beast allows you to slide the parts around a bit in order to get a perfect fit. 2) If the join is going to be under some strain then smear a thin layer of glue on each part and wait a few seconds for it to become very tacky - almost completely dry - before pressing the parts together. Yes, it does string, but with a bit of practice it's possible to minimise this and unavoidable strings can just be snapped off when they have hardened. But like most things, UHU is not the be-all and end-all and I do use other adhesives (white PVA, superglue) on occasion. Hope this helps.

I just got a dozen of these and they work great for PVA. Perhaps they will as well for the new kid on my block.

My main use for the UHU glue is for very thin paper that I use to fix damaged surfaces.
Like the belly of my recent Ouragan build. Otherwise, I use the Aleenes tacky glue. Isaac
