It's not only that the first one had 3 pilots, but that the third pilot either through experience, training or luck managed to figure out what the problem was and how to fix it.

The problem is that Boeing DID issue more information after the first crash, which is what makes the 2nd problematic, and raises the question of the crew. That first plane should have been grounded by MX and the crew after those issues. Yeah, Boeing messed up and needs to fix the system, but there were other missing links that contributed to both crashes.

Operating two toggle switches would have restored full manual control ! It's heartbreaking that the passengers died.

What's heartbreaking is that despite two different flights being lost over a new autopilot feature no one was properly trained on, the News keep highlighting "They only needed to flip two switches to avoid this crash"
Two switches out of how many? Not to mention trying to figure out why the plane kept trying to nosedive? And this problem was apparently reported several times and was dismissed by Boeing as lack of training when pilots were only given a 30 minute video training. |

Thanks, John - interesting comment.
The following is an interesting article with a summary of the background as well. https://www.aviationcv.com/aviation-...g-737max-crash

Indonesia's Garuda airline has announced that it will be cancelling an order for the 49 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. They cite a lack of faith in the model and its reliability as a reason for ending the order. They are looking to replace the order with another Boeing model.
Boeing has replied that it would send a delegation of officials to Indonesia to discuss the cancellation. Presumably, they will not be flying on a 737 Max 8 themselves. https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/arti...oeing%20orders

I'd fly on a Southwest MAX8... and I'd bet Boeing folks would, too.

Ryan - the link does not appear to be working...
Getting an "Acess denied" error. It is not my PC or set-up as I got someone else to check.
