Caspian Sea Monster is the News

Article found in the news today about saving this beast and putting it in a proposed park and museum. No word on whether it will be restored though.

Wow great news, at least, this stop it from rusting further... Does that mean I may actually be able to see this in person some day?

I can't remember where I got it, but I have a 1:200 paper model of this monster in my archives.

I just peeked at the cover art ... It's by Bartholomew "Storky" Miazga, and at the bottom of the page it says "Special edition for www.ecardmodels.com"
I doubt if it is in their new catalogue yet, but you never know.

The Korabl Maket, known as the "Caspian Sea Monster", was an ekranoplan commissioned in 1964 and crashed in 1980. It was 302 feet long.

The Lun-class ekranoplan was commissioned in 1987 and used until sometime in the 1990s. It is 242 feet long.

They are not the same vehicle.

The only Ekronoplans I can find in Bruno's offerings are a few Orlyonok A-90. A much smaller and more rational craft.

This seems to be the only picture available of the original (Korabi Maket)"Caspian Sea Monster". Different layout and even bigger. Seems this now lays UNDER the Caspian Sea after a crash.

The craft being preserved in the article is a later Lun Class Ekranoplan, as depicted in the various models referred to in this post. I'm not sure, but I suspect that there may have been more than one of the Lun Class built, but it's still nice to see one being preserved.
