Any advice for moving my blog?

In the past five years, I have developed an ever growing dislike for the all-invasive way Google takes over everything. I also do not like the way Google manages Blogger. The possibilities are limited and so I want to get rid of Google.

What I really want to do is to create my own site and move all of my stuff to that new location, but I have no clue on how to do such a thing. I have looked into moving from Blogger to a Wordpress environment but I do not have any experience in doing so.
I know I first need to get myself a new domain name and get a host and all that, but after that, can I 'move' everything? I guess I need to rebuild it image-wise from scratch, if I want to keep all the photos, which now are hosted at Google Photos. (of course I also keep all of my pictures on a HDD (and a double backup) so I could always rebuild it, if I should lose my online photos.) Perhaps it might be easier just to start all over again, but then I would lose almost ten years of bloggery...

Does anyone here have some tips or advice for me on how to do such a thing?

Hello PK,
I performed a quick search of "move blogger to wordpress" and I found this: How to Switch from Blogger to WordPress without Losing Google Rankings
TL;DR (too long, didn't read), but it seems to guide you step by step.
Did you already tried something like that? When (if?) I will have some spare time, I will try to read the article.
HTH (hope this help)

Why not try the move as per the instructions that Asettico posted?
Seems fairly straightforward from the amount I have read so far.

If you can't maintain your old blog posts, you shouldn't lose sleep.
Starting anew allows you to repost old articles and ideas, with a fresh approach.
I find those blogs are notoriously annoying to navigate and find older posts.
The search thingy never seems to find the relevant posts for me.
The search options are limited, the navigation is simple but not obvious.
Unless you know the specific date of an article, its hard to find one
...and most people give up fairly quickly if its a well populated blog.
In other words, once it disappears from the front page...it may never be seen again! lol.

Just leave your blog as is for now, try the wordpress move...
if it fails, your blog is still there, undamaged.

I guess both things are good options. I have a link to that 'blogger to wordpress' story in my bookmarks, I just didn't really read it yet. I guess trhe time is ripe to do that. And cleanly starting over again isn't that bad either. I think I might start something up soon.

Thanks, to both of you!

Hello Paper Kosmonaut.
WordPress has been created for people who don't want to delve into the programming process. I didn't want to do it either. So I left Joomla! and went to*the WordPress which is easier.
On the Internet there are enough instructions, books and sites with WordPress explanations. So you just need to spend some time studying this most simple CMS. By the way, WordPress in the it's beginning was planned as a blog. So you can easily transfer articles from your blog to the new site based on WordPress. Yes, this is a very big job but your blog deserves this one. Good luck!
If you need help with this work I can help you.

Thanks Dane, If I need help, I'll reach out. I will start reading into the matters soon. I guess I needed this encouragement of you all to get started, I have been not looking forward to doing this because of the expected hassle. I guess this is a good opportunity to start it all. (-:
