Airplane to Europe 1957 identify help
This is a picture of the airplane we took when we flew to Europe in 1957. Can anyone identify the aircraft?
I think it is a DC-6B.

Hi;
This aircraft is a Lockheed Electra, which had a dismal career as in airliner, but went on to fame when developed into the PC Orion series of naval aircraft. Regards rjccjr |

Neither photo is of an Electra, they both look like DC-6s to me.

The four bladed props, and pronounced hump of the piston engine nacelles makes me think DC-7. Don't know of any paper models but there could be some out there.

Hi All;
Ashevilleangler is most likely correct. The Electra was a slightly later design and would have had exhaust openings on the rear of the nacelles. The propeller tips would have been flat, rather than rounded. The DC-7 had the four blades and the nacelles had a pronounced hump. Neat livery at the time. Regards, rjccjr |

I'm with Curt, it looks like a DC-7. Too bad you couldn't get the tail number on the top of the vertical stabilizer.

DC-7 is looking good for the answer, but I am relying on Wikipedia
