Question Not a paper *model*...

Many years ago WEKU sent me a promotional item. It was a calendar like I've never seen before. It shipped flat, but when released it turned into a dodecahedron (?)... 12 5-sided faces, each with a month's calendar on it. A rubber band inside did the unfurling...
Is there a name for such items? Can they still be found?

There are designers who will release calendars like that, but there is one Japanese designer who created models with the rubber band trigger, but his name escapes me at this moment.
Unfortunately this designer only sold his kits in Japan exclusively

I make dodecahedron calendars, but they are not pop ups. There are some animal pop up toys, you can find a penguin on Amazon.
Here is a video showing how to make a pop up dodecahedron. You could print a month on each of the 12 sides.

Not a "paper model"...but a "paper toy"?

I had a large one, made of heavier card, printed with advertising.
A promotional item for Labatts Beer.
I took it from a table at a pub.
Had a rubber band inside and folded flat to be a beer mat(coaster) but popped up when you lifted your beer off!

And Doug probably gave you the best name for this paper toy.

Pygar,
Here is a link to a YouTube video that shows how to make a collapsible dodecahedron. You could replace the drawstring with a rubber band to make the shape "pop".
