Goodbye to a Modeling Buddy

A month ago today, my wife and I had to say goodbye to our oldest cat, Checkers. At age 16, his body was worn out.

We got Checkers shortly before I joined this forum; in fact, his name was my first password on the site.

And he had "involvement"- of a sort- in my card modeling, which made its way onto the forum several times. An insatiably curious little beast, it seemed that if I sat down to work on something, he HAD to know what it was. He'd leap onto my work surface and start poking his nose into everything. He was very dexterous; he always wanted to handle parts or assemblies with his mouth or paws, forcing reprints on several occasions. I miss him terribly. He was so much fun and such a huge presence in our home. Here, in honor of his "contributions", are photos of his guest appearances on this forum- holding down parts for me with his paws, judging my skills as I build a CT Ertz ironclad, and posing with a Finger and Toe western building and a Best Paper Models torpedo boat.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mine are getting close to that age, too. My little Bootsie spends most of her time in the basement these days. I check on her several times a day, just to make sure she is comfortable (and breathing).

wyvern so sorry for your loss they are family at the end of the day we have 4 fur babys at the moment so i know how you feel all the best

So sorry for your loss Wyvern. I once had a male cat named Corky. Just like Checkers, he was into everything, and always by my side when I worked on a model. So cute, I had trouble staying angry with him when he destroyed one of my projects, that was back in the day before you could just print out another one. I had to let him go when he was 17. I still miss him. My best advice, find another kitty that needs a home and someone like you to love.

Sorry to hear this. My cat, Mochi, is constantly helping me with my models too. He seems to look forward to it.
