So... Good news(ish):
I was able to get Pepakura Viewer 3 to run on my Mac (10.13.6, High Sierra) using WINE. Specifically, I used PlayOnMac to configure my WINE setup and install PV3. Tried to open a couple of files, and... Voila! They were open! Now saving them as a PDF was a different matter. After an hour of digging and experimenting, I gave up on the direct Mac approach. Next, I fired up a Linux installation running in VirtualBox (on my Mac). Again using WINE (this time PlayOnLinux), I installed the viewer. Opened the files (they worked!) and... printed them using the CUPS PDF printer I had already installed. Of course, nothing says you can't install Windows on a virtual machine and run the Pepakura software natively there, either. Good luck!
