Good news! The GP38-40 Alaska and Chessie versions are now at the printer's!
The hope / expect they will be available in about ten days' time. Go for more information to my website, Homepage >news. Mail me to reserve a printed version - don't forget to mention the version, and your address! Same if you want the download Print-Your-Own version: I need your email for that.

Do you have plans to do the GP40? All I see are GP38 parts.
Also, it's "Chessie", not "Chessy" Glenn Leasure

You will not be surprised that we have got totally confused by this 38,38-2 and 40 business. No one ever thought of making a simple little list of visible differences when a new version was introduced? No real life engineer at the time thought of not confusing paper model designers, 40 or 50 years later. I blame them, and of course humbly apologise for any glaring mistakes we may have made. For instance: no, we did not count the rivets.

Diderick - Should you decide to add variations on these to broaden the appeal, there are three basic locomotive models that can be made based on what's already been created. All have the same body size and shape, same fuel tank structure, and the same bogie/truck. The main visual differences are 1) the number and position of the radiator fans, 2) the length of the radiator, and 3) the use of a turbocharger or not (shown by the number of exhaust stacks).
Those are: GP38 (the model you currently have): Two radiator fans, short radiator, and no turbocharger (shown by the two exhaust stacks, one in front and one in back of the dynamic brake fan). GP39: Two radiator fans, short radiator, with turbocharger (shown by the single larger exhaust stack at the front of the engine compartment). GP40: Three radiator fans, long radiator, with turbocharger (shown by the single larger exhaust stack at the front of the engine compartment). All three can have dynamic brakes (or not), and can have varying sizes of fuel tank, depending on which railroad ordered them, but the basic structure of the frame, cab, and body is the same for all of them. |
