You are right. Some people had seen or heard of paper models, but most of the comments about mine were on the order of, "I had no idea . . !"

One thing I remember noticing on many model shows was that people are still very much interested in space exploration. While models of cars, planes and ships can get deserved attention rocket models always get "aww" from kids and adults alike.

I'm not surprised your models got so much attention. Well done kits and very well put together. I think Jan Kytop made well enlarged model Saturn rocket with all sections exposed-I'm sure it's an eye opener for great many people.

Congratulations on your awards! They are well deserved.

David, these are fantastic models. The awards are very much well deserved and once again it has been proven that paper modeling is absolutely equal to plastic modeling. And maybe even more than that.
In general people think that modeling is by definition plastic modeling and usually are in full awe if you tell them that in fact it's paper.
Recently I was on a business trip with a few colleagues and once we started talking about more personal things it turned out that one of them is also an enthusiastic plastic modeler. So, I showed him a few pictures of my paper models and he was quite amazed that such a thing exists and had a hard time to believe they're made of paper. In fact, he got so curious about the idea he wanted to order a few Halinskis right away . I kindly advised him to start with something less challenging....

Cheers,
Erik

One of the first paper models I built was a Halinski Me-109. It was certainly a challenge, but the results were satisfactory. Halinski's assembly images are very good. I would not hesitate to recommend one to an experienced plastic modeler. GPM's more recent kits are also very good for introducing the hobby to experienced modelers. Which kit to recommend would the key.

Philip,
I just spent some time browsing through your Flickr albums. Great stuff and I love the variety.
