Thumbs up Art Deco Tesla Robovan

Tesla held their “We, Robot” event last Thursday — they unveiled the Cybercab automated taxi for two passengers, and Robovan automated bus/shuttle service vehicle for 20 passengers. The Robovan has an Art Deco inspired design.

The Robovan reveal is at the 17:45 time marker:

I'll believe it when I see it. 'Self-driving' taxis and a plethora of other 'autonomous' 'robot' vehicles have repeatedly been announced with great fanfare and then faded away. If you read the potted history of Waymo, for example, they have been testing cars for nearly a decade now propped up by investors, but the only passengers so far have been company employees, and there have been several reported crashes and allegations of many others unreported. Protest groups have already been active working against them and self-driving cars in general, and that's before we even get to the minefield of legislation and liability laws.

Tesla should focus on getting a sub-30k EV to market to compete with the Chinese, and discipline its toxic CEO for the same reason. Other issues include the painful unsuitability of the new Model 3's controls for European roads.

Actually, Waymo is active here in Phoenix. I probably see a dozen or so of them every day as I do my delivery runs around the city.

Ah, yes, you're right there actually. I saw something about a waiting list on their landing page and assumed it meant they were not taking public customers yet.

I've counted six times...there are only 14 seats in that 20 seat robovan.
Elon is lying to us again.

You have to pay a subscription to unlock the other six seats.
