Do anyone use iPod and iTunes? I have a problem

Do any of you have the iPod and iTunes? I have the problem where when I reinstall iTunes into my computer and then try to add more music to my computer and iPod from a CD... now all I have is the one CD on both iTunes and iPod and none of my purchased songs, movies, etc. Which it was considerable... I have maybe 700 songs...

Lala,

Are you re-installing it fresh from the System CD's or upgrading when you get the Software Update notice?

There is no system CD. To get the iTunes you down load it into your computer. It is not windows.

For my computer itself, I have to reformat the hard drive, which I do already from the hard drive partition. So that was done. And I reinstall iTunes some weeks back. But yesterday when I go to take a music CD and put the songs in iTunes and my iPod... all I have left now is the new CD and songs but my prior library it is vanish!

This wiped out your songs......... I'm not sure if it is possible but maybe iTunes Store will let you download already purchased songs again.

Hi!

Did you save the songs on another drive? If not - I fear thy are gone for ever. You can't redownload songs you bought. Only once. For exactly this case, I saved all my music to an external drive.

iTunes does have a song back-up function. It usually asks if you want to when you purchase something. I haven't done it yet, but I also have my files on an external.

The more emails I read I'm not sure if I understand. Did all your music and video files disappear or can you just not load them from the computer to your hard drive?

Anytime you reformat a hard drive (PC, Mac, other) it erases all data on the drive.

When you reinstalled iTunes a few weeks back did you still have all your music afterwards?

If so, did you change the location or name of the folder/drive where you keep your music & video files? It is possible for iTunes to "forget" where the files are stored and you'dhave to point it to the correct folder again.

No, they're gone. Itunes does back up stuff you buy, but I haven't had that problem.
I BACK UP EVERYTHING ON DISC...therefore, no worries.

Also, when you sync the ipod, back up itunes config files.

I just asume you're on a Mac, if so;
I don't know how you re-installed the OS,clean or leaving everyting in place, but there might be a possibility that the files are still there , but you have to import them again in iTunes, look for (in this order)finder, locations, home, music, itunes music if they are still there, go to iTunes, archive, add to library, select the folder, and add to library, if this doesn't work I'm affraid you erased them.
