My wife said they don't work. She prefers the ones with wings. Maybe because without a USB port they are about as useless.

Expensive to leave behind in the coffee shop plus I would not know what to do with one. i still do not know how to text on my 10 year old phone but it does work as a telephone very well and nobody would bother to steal it.

well, I'm not sure about that, but at work I'm playing with this touchscreen:

Wholesale-8" VGA AV Touch Screen TFT LCD Monitor

for $130, its amazing taps into my current laptop, and works exactly like its supposed to.

I got one of these some time ago, I was originally looking for an E-book reader. It works very well for this purpose, cost less and does a whole lot more
7" LCD TouchScreen Windows CE5.0 UMPC PDA Laptop w/WIFI on eBay.ca (item 120553413401 end time 13-Apr-10 17:00:58 EDT)

They also make a 10.2" model
10.2" Touch Screen Windows 7 PDA Laptop UMPC Notebook on eBay.ca (item 110516287618 end time 11-Apr-10 18:30:19 EDT)

They don't have the Apple stylish design but they do what they are supposed to do well enough - including multitasking and Flash.

There are a great number of tablets being released this year. This one looks very promising http://gizmodo.com/5471559/notion-in...pecs-finalized as does the HP Slate (running Windows 7) http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/05/h...-hour-battery/.
Here are the other major iPad Alternatives http://gizmodo.com/5495946/ipad-alte...nders/gallery/. Many of them blow the iPad away in performance.

I looked at the iPad when I wanted a book reader. Got the Sony eReader instead and am very happy with it. But then, I don't really need anything else. Plus, it's much easier to read since it's not back lit. When I use a back lit screen for long periods I tend to get eye fatigue and even headaches, but the so-called e-paper technology has taken care of that. And the new one uses a touch screen technology.
