Of the dozens of cars I have owned in my life, I've owned numerous Montes, Grand prixs and a Buick Century Wagon.
Had a couple with steel cables wrapped around the rear bumpers and bolted to the trunk floor (holding the bumpers on!). Lucky thing I was a Class A Mechanic through that period! All this late 70s/80s General Motors "junk" had rotten framess just ahead of the rear wheels. Had a girlfriend driving a 2 door LeMans that had completely broken through the frame, on both sides, just behind each door! And lets not get into the detuned, grossly underpowered, over pollution controlled, gas sucking useless monstrosities they had for engines! Hey...at least they had frames...I won't comment on all the 'uni-body crap that was produced at the same time...like Mustangs! LMAO A lousy 200 horsepower and you still needed to weld frame rails into the floor to keep the car from twisting! haha

Re:Stev0
See you, it's a very fine kind of joke you have written. One question in (the Atlanthic ocean) opposition, did you ever drive an older (20-25 years old) Russian, French, Italian or (less typical) German car? Sometimes they can behave a bit similarly... Our family used to drive an '84 Opel Ascona (a German sibling of Chevy Cavalier and Pontiac Sunbird, the GM J-body) some years ago, and one day rear axle had been broken there... In addition, we have a wet climate, and we can see how fast older cars get rusted and moulded. What about me, '2004 I have got a PhD degree in chemistry (electrochemistry and corrosion), and those problems are a bit familiar to me. Anyway, if you will have some more stories, you're welcome to tell them, here openly or in my PM. Now I drive the '2001 Mazda B2500 Turbobiesel Crewcab pickup truck, 109 HP 5 speed manual, and I'm 100% sure with that wehicle (though it's assembled in the Thailand for Europe). So, it's a bit of fun to see how my modelcars related thread is turning to the autocar consummer report. Last edited by modelcars39_narod_ru; 11-08-2010 at 05:15 PM. |

No wonder, I've just taken good photos and explored various views to match the original.

I'm continuing prerarations of the set for assembling my first model of the GM G-body series.
The exterior paintwork: green ink, 10 years aged. The resulting color is close to "aspen green". In addition, strengthening parts are prepared of 4-layer card for bending and fixing the side panels. Because of lack of freetime, further operations will be delayed for some days, sorry. |
