Here are the final photos of the completed engine. The only comment so far is that some of the parts could have used a thinner cardboard.
Also photos of the engine installed. Next up is the transmission and suspension. Fred |

Part 3 - Transmission and Suspension
Thanks, Marco, here is the next installment.
This section includes the drive mechanism built with elastic rope. Don't know if this is going to work too good until I get some of the tires on the model. Testing the system by hand to put tension on the rope works, but when the wood dowel is released the return rotations are pretty iffy. Use of oil not recommended on a paper model. Only problem so far is that sometimes the glue bond between the parts does not hold. I scuff up the glossy print on both parts to glue but maybe it needs more of a roughing up. Up next is the Exhaust and Steering Systems. Fred |

Looking good, Fred! I built this model a few years ago, and, like you, had trouble with the glue sticking to the shinny parts. I scraped off the finish where the glue need to be, and that solved most of the problems. On some difficult to hold places, I used hot melt! Works wonders, but can leave "spider webs" and burned fingers!! Whatever it takes! After some fiddling around, I disengaged the "motor" and just made it free wheeling.
I admire your work! Looking forward to the next installment. Jim |

Graphite from a pencil works very well as a dry lubricant.

Your build is really looking good, Ss. One of these days I'm going to have to seriously try to find one of those kits at a good price. Or, just pay the piper for whatever price I can get. It's funny, I've used glossy paper only twice (photo paper -didn't like it, and brochure paper-liked it fine), and in both cases, I found that the glue grabbed faster than on "normal" card stock. Maybe the parts pages were coated with something during publication.
