They might even have preceded the stretch idea. Way back in '72 such Mercs were used as taxis in Cyprus. We called them Pullmans but I'm not sure if the name was Official. Mind you, in '72 these things were not new. They all looked a few years old, but they were worked hard on the long distance inter-town runs.
