I just got a copy of this, and plan to simplify it and make it really small -- HO scale. It'll lose a lot of detail that way, but that's the scale I like...
Anyway, I just thought I'd point out the "Jerry cans" included with the kit are not 1925 vintage. Apparently they were invented in 1937 in Germany. Gas cans of 1925 looked more like what we'd think of as old-fashioned milk cans, but with ribbing along the cylinders. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerrycan

One of these days I will get back to working on this. The last thing I was working on was scratch building the radiator. The fit on this kit is absolutely horrible. And I mean horrible!

Even though I'm not working on this project right now I thought I'd post a few pictures of it's current status. I did complete the engine and placed it in the frame to complete the rolling chassis. The last time I touched this model I was building the radiator. One day I'll pick it up again and push thru to the end but no time soon.

The drive chain was something I really wanted to highlight on this model but there was no way I would have ever considered building individual links so I came up with what I thought was a happy medium. I simply expanded on the parts that were provided in the kit by making a few duplicate copies to add additional layers of details. The biggest challenge was gluing all the rollers in place between the two halves. Since this thread has some new life to it I went back and found more pictures of the engine build. The addition of these pictures it brings everything up to date with it's current status. Enjoy!

Hello Dane
To achieve the oily effect on the chain I used three products from Vallejo. First the chain was brush painted with a coat of Model Color Oily Steel and left to dry for a few hours. Then it was given a Dark Brown wash and left again to dry. To finish it off a final wash of Engine Oil Stain which gave it that "wet" oily look.
