Uni Mog first build

Morning all

Well scavenged round the house and managed to find very basic tools to try a build. The model is s Mercedes Uni Mog and seems unreasonably simple for a first go.

Now I've actually tried cutting, folding a gluing I'm even more in awe of the skills on this forum as it's not as easy as it looks.

So after an hour cutting, and another of folding and head scratching I've completed the first stage and will be moving on to bodywork.

Really enjoyed it so far and learnt a lot in a very short time. Main lesson is i don't have enough hands😁
Hopefully photo attachment s will work though my I.T skills rival my card modelling.

Oh if anyone can enlighten me to a simple, cheap method of edge colouring I'd be most grateful. All going well with the Mog I'll get some tweezers etc. Next month along with first kit.

You are doing ok so far Nigel. Keep it up. Try Youtube for some how-too vids on paper modelling.

Edge colouring - try watercolour pencils - not so cheap but they last for ages.

Just colour with the pencils and then smear the colour further with a damp finger if you need to.

Or, use cheap watercolour paints and a fine brush.

I tend to colour the edges before glueing, as well as touching up after.

If you are using watercolours, you should spray the sheets of paper with a matt aerosol varnish - one from the hardware store down the road will do. You can spray what you have done now, and the parts you still have to cut out if you want.

Then, with the varnishing done, you will find it very easy to clean Ioff any unwanted watercolours, without damaging the model.

Also, varnish the model again when finished - just a light spray. This seals the watercolours and provides protection against damp, insects etc.

Many thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I've been watching plenty of vids for tips etc. which allowed me to get as far as I have.
I'll take a look for water color pencils. I was under no illusion that my first attempt was going to be dubious in places but better to mess up on a free model that I can print out again if needed.

I use Prang Thick Core Colored Pencils for edging. They can be applied dry or with a quick dip in some water to help.

Available in art supply stores and online from many places.

Even keep a gray felt-tip art pen around. They last a long time and the gray is much more subtle than black.
