1978 Tyrrell Ford 008 Depailer (Spinler)
This is the car Tyrrell produced in 1978 after the failed P34 six-wheeler. The car only had one win, in Monaco, driven by Patrick Depailler.
This is Spinler's model in not quite 1/24th scale, closer to 1/27th. I forgot to change a setting on my printer and it printed closer to 91%-92%... There's a lot of detail, some of which is already tiny and made smaller by my printing mistake. The parts went together well. The tiny mirrors were challenging but ended up being my favorite part, they look so good! Anyways, here's the completed model. Makes a great addition to my collection! |

Here's some engine detail. Too bad it's mostly covered up...

Nice. I hope that beautiful engine can be seen if you look up from the bottom

Excellent work indeed. Back in the greatest days of the formula. Pat on your back from me

Beautiful!
I wish I had the time to build all these classic cars. Is there any front suspension support? Those paper A-arms don't look strong enough to support the car. Have they been glue strengthened or is there some sort of support under the front body? Quote:
Most of this era F1 had a flat solid bottom (like a big skid plate). The engines were always well buried in the bodywork, basically for aerodynamics. The engine view was usually directly from the rear with the gear box in the way.

Wonderful! A worthy addition to your collection despite the scale difference.

When the drivers actually had to drive the race car. The steering wheel of the modern cars costs more than the whole vehicle from back then. I know driver safety is a major thing, but can't help feel it's all becoming too clinical. The one safety device which took so long to introduce is the Halo, this in my opinion should have been an obvious thing to have... even back then... but obviously not the case.

Softer rubber (tires) gives more grip, right?
So if they made the tires out of sponge foam ...like slot cars, they also wouldn't hurt when they hit you in the head. And they wouldn't even need head protection! Just my suggestion for F1 to make it safer. The new Indy cars are kind of cool with the enclosed HALO and windshield. But I miss the days of turbos and unrestricted racing! I don't miss losing drivers though.
