Thanks Don.

I've finished up the exhaust, cab floor and wheels for this entry.

The exhaust was a little bit fiddly and the main pipe needed some trimming for fit but all came together in the end.

The cab floor was a piece of cake to assemble.

The wheels formed up nicely. I bought the laser etched treads available for the model and am happy I did. They give much better detail that is preserved once I painted them. Tire paint was Rustoleum 2X slate gray.

I had fashioned a jig for spoke assembly but was having some issues with it so ended up doing them by sight. The hubs and rims had markings for spoke placement so I was able to get a decent result without the jig.

Next up will be the hood assembly. I may have some slight issues here as the engine may be set back too far by one card thickness. Here's hoping....

This is turning out to be a really magnificent model! The blue wheels are classy.

Hood, firewall and driver's seat and controls.

Hood was a little puzzle. The hinges were a slight challenge to get right, but I managed well. They still function! Yay.

Steering wheel assembly has one rolling a small diameter tube for the steering shaft. Not my favorite thing to do but it came out OK. I did replace the steering wheel rim and cheater knob with wire and styrene rod respectively for a better look.

Trim strips along the top edge on both seat sides are WAY too short. I used blue Pitt pen markers to color the edges beforehand so not a big deal.

Van body construction is underway.

The inner structure parts are laminated to .5 mm cardboard. Several of these parts have curves on the bottom. I don't particularly enjoy bending laminated parts, but these worked out OK.

There is a choice of side billboards: the George Bormann one, the white one that is police, and the yellow one which is postal van.

I like that wood paneled interior.

Overall, the model reflects your usual standard of clean, precise work.

Quite a bit of updates in this post:

Roof, lanterns, wire work -

The roof has a main part that's laminated and then a second laminated insert for the back half to induce a taper to the front half of the top skin piece. This is all fine and dandy except I think the insert lamination at 1 mm was too much. I had trouble getting the side and rear edges to meet the bottom piece without a gap.

The lanterns were quite fiddly and I ruined the main body of one so had to make a new one. I painted these with Vallejo brass for a better look and to hide all the visible white at one time. Once mounted in their designated spots on the firewall, there is not enough clearance to open the hood. Is this correct or an error in model design?

The wire work: I found this part to be the most fiddly part of all. I had to procure some 22 gauge wire and went with a gold tone in hopes to avoid painting. Unfortunately the roof rack was a complete pain to get built up and I may have to give it some additional dress up. I'm considering fashioning a few billboards to hide the "ugly" parts and maybe a load for the roof. Then I'd almost be forced to add cargo to the interior. Ugh, maybe I'll just paint the roof rack and call it a day.
