ABC vehicles

My earlier thread (Diorama) mentioned that I had bought a hand full of ABC magazine's centerfolds.

This time it's a London K type bus and a 1934 Auto Union racing car.

First the Auto Union. This is the type A designed by Ferdinand Porsche and like most of his cars it has a V16 rear engine. At the time, very few drivers could cope with the layout but it seems that AU took on motorcycle racers as they were not so familiar with front engine cars.

Here is the page from the magazine

I do like the way you have with these ABC models, Mike. This one's pretty nifty!

Part 2

The London K type bus made by AEC.

This one fascinated me partly because of Alan G's B type and the bus ran not far from where we lived way before I was born;-) This bus ran in the 1920's.

It was quite a complicated kit to make mainly because I couldn't find the appropriate page on ABC's website

The bus is about 9 inches long, the AU is about 7 inches

Cheers

It's a handsome racing car and a very good-looking bus.

You have displayed them very artfully.

Very nice Mike, both of them. In their different ways thay both evoke a different world!

The K-type gives a surprisingly good impression of the revolutionary (for London at least) design, though it is somewhat "approximate" in several respects, as I discovered when working on my own design after doing the B-type. It is a shame that I didn't know of your efforts before, as I have a copy of the instructions transcribed from the "Golden Book of Paper Models" and roughly translated into English by Mr. Google, which you could have had. From the look of your results it clearly wasn't necessary though.

All the best,
Alan

Thanks for your comments -

My first attempt at an ABC race car was many years ago the kit was give to me as a present. I decided to varnish the finished car but the paper was so bad that the words on the revers came through.

As for the instructions for the bus, the part numbers helped but the problem was that some parts never showed up on the drawings, so thanks Allan for your comments. Some day I'll have to try your B-type although there looks to be twice as many parts as there are for the K-type !

Cheers
Mike
