The underside of the 1/48 scale DH 83 Fox Moth shown here. To achieve the distinctive bulge towards the front of the aircraft, a separate floor component with a single longitudinal dart is shaped and glued in place.
This ensures the correct side profile of the fuselage.

Looks great, terry. Many thanks for these excellent images as the Fox Moth takes shape before our eyes.
I am saving them in hopes of someday actually getting one built (not to mention that beautiful purple Tiggy you sent me so long ago that has been languishing in a semi-completed state for ages). Don Don |

The assembled fuselage showing the N struts in place. We have opted for thin strips of paper card but painted plastic strip can be substituted to provide a more photograph friendly appearance.
2 part resin like araldite is the recommended glue for all undercarriage work and gluing the tail and wing assembly. The tacky quality of the glue enables careful positioning of components and the glue adds much strength to the strength of the model- the tail in particular.

Nearly Done!
The prototype 1/48 Model nearly completed! This is a design that really works well in paper. We will tweak a few things but we are very happy with this step-up from the 1/72 scale Fox Moth.

We are very pleased with this final design which I think has some fine engineering around the fuselage in particular. The resolution of the cabin and the obscuring of the darts under the N struts and the fuel line are noteworthy.
The exhaust pipe here provided by a incense stick and paper and paint. The canopy made from a plastic drink bottle and glues with clear resin. I will wrap up this build in the next couple of posts.

It's a beauty, Terry! You have engineered your way past a lot of compound curves and other complexities to translate this lovely airplane into paper.

Dh 83 Fox Moth
We will be releasing the Fox Moth and it's variants in the future. Some nice colour schemes on this pioneering aircraft. The NZ picture is from 1936 and shows the Nolan homestead which operated as an airfield in the rugged West Coast of the South Island.
We are looking at providing some illustrated background with the orange fox moths, so the ingredients for a diorama will be there.
