OK, I give up. I shrunk my five pages DOWN so each page is under 400kb. After putting them into the PDF the total pdf size went from 14.5MB to 17MB. How is that even possible?

CSS Columbus should be attributed to my late great friend and researcher Ben Shuman who provided the original sketch. I don't know what was intended for the casemate roof, but I'd guess a grating on which her officers stood would be most likely. The guns were Confederate Parrotts, See "The Big Guns" by Olmstead, Stark & Tucker. It's not certain they were ever put aboard.
