CSS Peedee 1/250 scale
Because of the interest in the recent finding and possible salvage of the CSS Peedee's guns, I started this model. I am going on a lot of guess work here because not too much seems to be known about the Peedee. The length is reported between 150 and 170 feet, so I went with the 150 feet between perpendiculars, so the ship is overall a bit longer then 150 feet. The guns number three, a heavy rifle on the center and two smaller rifles on the ends. I also included the wheel, the winch and the schooner rigging. The model is quite small and has some (I hope) well detailed parts. Although it is possible (or even likely) that the Masts were removed or shortened, I like the schooner rigging found on many inter waterway gunboats. I am unsure about the stack placement, but this is the placement found on a number of home built Confederate gunboats.
So, whatchya think? CT

Corey,
I'm impressed thus far. I think this is going to be a great addition to your line up. I think your choices on lacking information are well made, educated decisions. I like the layout of the weapons and rigging. I really look forward to seeing this one come along and building it. Jeff |

Thanks guys, this is such a small model that It will probably be incorporated as a three boat kit containing the Peedee, the Macon, and the CSS Hampton. I have the CSS Hampton about done so all I need is some additional info on the Macon gunboat.

I believe that your Papercraft Confederate Navy will be a threat if a North vs. South Papercraft war takes place. Negotiations are still possible.
"Bombardment and Capture of Island Number Ten on the Mississippi River, April 7, 1862 Colored lithograph published by Currier & Ives, New York, circa 1862. It depicts the bombardment of the Confederate fortifications on Island Number Ten by Federal gunboats and mortar boats. Ships seen include (from left to right): Mound City , Louisville , Pittsburg , Carondelet , Flagship Benton , Cincinnati , Saint Louis and Conestoga . Mortar boats are firing from along the river bank. " |

CT your stack placement is correct. I have a 1/600 scale model of the Peedee.

Very interesting project!
I found this image of what is said to be the CSS Chattahoochee; it is claimed the CSS PeeDee was similar in appearance. Is there any other image that provides a better idea of what she looked like, or perhaps a contemporary document that provides a clear description? Looks like a fine vessel, but I gathered her career was very short and was intentially scuttled to avoid capture. How is this model design coming along? Cheers! Jim |
