Interesting story behind this one. Looking forward to seeing the model come together. It will probably be cheaper than 30 Euros, too. The Modeller - der Burstyn-Tank in 1/87 |

Found the Burstyn replica - it's part of an exhibition of prototypes and concepts open until Nov 2011.

Corey,
this is an intersting project. I certainly echo the thanks for taking on these projects. This period is always of interest to me as there were a great many theories as to how to solve different problems. I look forward to seeing more on this one. Jeff |

Hmmm, looks like it would have been only a little bigger than a FT-17. Wonder what it was to be armed with, specific weapons I mean.

Not sure, I just read that it would have been a light rapid fire cannon and a machine gun. For a tank this size, I suspect a couple of machine gines in the turret and one aft would be a better combination. The other interesting thing is that the cannon as drawn pokes out through a large rectangle opening. this provides good visibility for the gunner but would also make him vulnerable. Also of note, there are two oval ports, one on each side of the gun, that could be opened as well. Really reminds me of the ports on the Monitor's turret from the Civil War.

Probably looked like the Monito's turrent because ship's turrents were the only ones thaat people knew how to build, as the AFV was too new an idea for anyone to have done much figuring out. Now, since the man who designed it was an Austrailian, it seems, kinda likely the main gun would have been a Naval pattern 6 pounder as used on the Mark I. Though it looks like the tank have been a bit small for it, but then again I wasn't a tanker!

This looks wonderful, Corey. Such a curious design. Looking at the replica above, I wonder if it would have used some other construction than rivets?
