I think the blue is too birght. Think dull and dark, maybe close to a navy blue. Looks like she will be a nice addition to the fleet.

That is kind of what I was thinking too Fred. I used the "dark Blue" setting in sketch up and it came out much brighter then expected. I am going to play around with that a bit.
This ship was brand new when it sank, but took a long time to build, so I am going with the weathered wood, but new paint job with little to no rust. CT |

It was looking great, I'm really sorry to hear about the crash. Good luck on the new one, it's looking pretty good too!

I defer to those with more expertise, but the color looks good to me. ...thinking of all the night operations I've been on a dark blue would be harder to see on the water

After so many issues I am finally about done (except for corrections as my builders test build).
I think this ship was employed in a good way, too bad for the South for a hidden sandbar. By fighting at night, the Raleigh was able to avoid damage to itself while distracting blockading ships. While doing any real damage to the Monitors would have been unlikely, this type of night fighting was a good way of weakening the Blockade, even for an hour or two, allowing supplies to be moved in and runners to take cotton out. I wonder why this was not done more often? Anyhow, This model kit will be three card sheets and two diagrams, pluss a cover and contents page. I should have everything rounded up today. More soon, CT |

Still too bright, to my mind. While we don't know the exact color, I think we can say that 1860's paint would have been dull and dark, or conversly more like a dark french gray. The blockaders knew that light blue gray was the best camoflauge color for night. The weathered decks for Charlie looks great, so good to see that again.

Or see how it looks in Payne's gray. That could be described as "dark blue."

One last thought, the stack would still be black, they were unlikely to paint it, as all the paint would blister off fairly quickly.
