Rip off or not, it still looks pretty excellent there. Like the way your stairs turned out.

Jay, thanks.
Oh, and another question for Knife. On the distressed paper you used to represent the tent canvas on your CSS Ashley and CSS Baltic builds... Anyway you could give me a walkthrough of how you made it? I assume it needs to be attached to the awning posts before they're glued into place on the aft deck. Cory, bought your Charleston kit yesterday, so will be starting a build of it soon too. Thank you for making all these ironclads, they're a lot of fun. Oh and a question before buying the Huntville/Tuscaloosa pdf, have you redone the pages with their casements fixing the problem that Knife pointed out? Where there's a piece missing both fore and aft on the side pieces of the casement of both ships? ref: http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/s...tsville-2.html |

I wouldn't worry too much about the hole in the Tuscaloosa, it's an easy fix. I would also recommend the CSS Georgia. The model comes with the ability to build it many different ways. It's like getting four kits in one. I haven't built it yet, but will when I get home.
As far as the distressed paper goes, I found the yellowest sheet of paper I had, and simple cut a small square out and crumpled it out several times. The tighter the better. Think spit-ball without the spit. I then flattened it out and rolled it into a tight tube to make it have a slight sag in it. Then I creased the centerline to make a crisp bend on the center support. I then glued the awning support in place on the model, and draped and lightly glued the awning over it. The trim up any excess. I hope this helps. It has been suggested that tissue paper (the kind you blow your nose in) makes better awnings with less trouble. Just don't use the quilted kind. |

Thanks for the info. Took a shot at the tent canvas. Here's some more work in progress shots. Got the bollards on there finally.

Anchor ropes and the 4 guywires holding the smoke stack up all glued in place. Also doubled the trim around the top edge of the casement. It came out nicely, subtle but nice.
Still to go will be the davits, the boats, the anchors and then finally the railing. |

Looking very nice, Torakaze. Looks like a sharp build. I use CA glue to reinforce the davits, prevents sagging.

Ah thanks, was wondering if you used glue to strengthen the davits.

She is coming right along there Torakaze, won't be long and you will be gluing it down to a permanent base for your diorama.

Have only managed to get the anchors built and installed. They came out nice for being my first timing building them.
Not having good luck with the davits so far, so the build is being delayed some more. |

Two shots of the Milly with CSS Ashley to compare and contrast them.
