No Comfort and Joy Challenge
Hi all,
It is time for another challenge. I came up with the idea when exchanging a couple of PMs with CmdrTed, last December. That idea has now fully morphed into a challenge, because it will be a challenge for me, and for those who want to join in. Basic premise, build a model which is outside your comfort zone, for me that would be Boats and Ships, because I tend to build more cars and trucks than anything else, and whenever I made a ship in plastic, I would always end up with a warped hull in one direction, and a flight deck warped in the other direction. Anything goes. If you have been wanting to try your hand at a figurine, or a Cathedral, or the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, this is the perfect time to do so. Also, if you have been doing simple cars or trucks or aircraft, like the racepaper.de or trotskiy offerings, and would like to try your hand at one of the Czech designed and laid out car or truck models or one of the free aircraft out there, like the Beech Starship or one of the free models from Dr. Zarkov, those will be accepted as well. Timeframe, Christmas 2008, is the deadline, so on December 25th, all builds must be completed. Judging, Maybe, Maybe Not, not sure yet, seeing that I have not put thought into awards or prizes, I just might take the completed builds and have all of those be POTW(picture of the week) candidates, for how ever many weeks in 2009 we have entries. So if we have 12 completed builds, the first 12 POTWs will be those builds. Just a reminder, Anything Goes. You are encouraged to post a build report, but you are requested to make your choice known in this thread. And you are also encouraged to write a kit review to help others in their choices. I would like to encourage everyone to stretch out, and join in, gain some new skills, find a new genre they might like, build a model they have had their eye on for a while(Yes, it has to be outside your comfort zone), and most importantly, have fun. Questions, Comments, Gripes, as always, are welcome. Lets get to cutting some paper. Rick

To show you that I am nutz, I will be building the GO-38, a fishing trawler from the Netherlands, published by Paper Trade, in the scale of 1:150
I also have the laser cut detail set for this ship, and will be using that too. Rick

I'm in! And you stole my thunder a little bit. I plan on building the Free 1:33 Beech Starship model by Marian. I've basically no experience with planes with formers or interiors. I did the FG Ju-88 with interior, but that was so minimal it doesn't really count to me.

I'll crawl way out on the limb and assume the hobby shop will get done in time to play in this sandbox. Let's see.....I haven't built a railcar yet, and just recently got in an order from PMI with a couple of O gauge caboose models in it....just need to decide which one to do first, the N52A Hack or the N6B Mae West. After looking through the kits, they definitely qualify as being outside the comfort zone.

Hmmm. I usually build (relatively) light things that fly. So 'heavy' would be in order.
Something armour-plated. With multiple turrets and lots of guns maybe. Something with fewer wheels than the current project. OTOH the current project is most famously depicted as being submersible..... Panzerzug it is!

So I know that it's another airplane,........ but, since I have managed to put off completing the much discussed but little worked on Model 95 mailplane,.... I'm going to declare my intention here and now to finally "git-er-done".
First I'll need to find those files somewhere on my PC.........hmmmm. Cecil |

I might partake in this, though at my current work rate I don't see myself finishing anything.
Maybe this thing? http://malymodelarz.webpark.pl/gif/9-2000.gif I also have the Mayflower, but it's much more complicated.
