CutandFold Challenge May 15 Update
.................................................. .............

Less than two months left to get your entries in!
Lets get building!
Contest Info

A couple of new entries added in the last week
and I'm really hoping to see some more.
Please take a look at the Build threads that have been started here.
Still plenty of time to choose a model and enter the Contest!!
...this is your chance at a shot at a ton of free models!

I've been asked a few times about "micro" builds.
I classed "micro" builds as anything smaller than 1/72.
Since I don't actually produce a model in that scale,
I was reluctant to allow it as a build option in the challenge.
But....if I am going to allow modifications, then micro builds should be
acceptable too.

So, I am dropping one of the "Honorable Mention" prizes
in favour of a "Best Micro Build" category.
I'll even add another model to the reward...
so you win a couple of kits in this category.
[see the full category/prize list below]

Just remember...I'm still interested in presentation over skill.
You don't need to be a master builder to win anything here.
So, just building a model real small might not be enough to net you the win.

Remember...Contest ends June 30
Still plenty of time...but according to Enstein, its all relative.

This is the two week warning!

CutandFold Challenge June 16 Update
.................................................. ....

This will be the penultimate notice.
I'll be sending this out to all cutandfold forum members.
I will make a final post on June 30...the last day for Contest Entry submission.

Honestly...you still have time to choose a model and enter the Contest!!
...or get your current build finished.
Just remember to get your Build Thread started!
...and post your (dated) model entry photo
...and post your final entry photos by June 30

All the Contest Info is here

We have a number of build threads started.
We'd love to see some more work in progress photos
even if you don't want to show the entire build.

Once again, there are a couple of entrants who have not started their
build threads...you need to hurry!

I can see, from some of the work so far,
that I will have a tough time picking winners!

You don't need to be a master builder to win anything here.
I am sticking to my original plan of judging the entry presentation first.
Think about interesting photos, photographing your model in an interesting way,
or maybe adding other elements to your presentation.
Dioramas are of course always a great way to display your models.

Reminder:
You need to wrap up your Entry by posting your "final judged photos"
(post up to 3 photos maximum) before midnight June 30.

Good Luck all.

Congratulations to vintagemodeler!

John's "Desert Wreckage" Diorama using the Lady Be Good B-24 Liberator kit
really jumped out at me (when I first saw the photos).

Thinking back to my original judging criteria, I was hoping for entries that favored
presentation over build. Since its virtually impossible to judge the build, fit and
finish of a model just from photos, I felt it would be completely unfair to try to do so.

And I also wanted to be fair to those who might not have the years of experience
and build skill, and give them a chance to compete on the same level as the seasoned builder.

I won't even attempt to judge vintagemodeler's build skills (although his model looks
quite well put together, if you ask me!)...but the Diorama idea, recreating the Lady Be Good
crash site...using an actual outdoor location and burying the aircraft in real "sand"...
actually made me say "wow" when I saw it.
And thats what I was looking for.

Before I say any more, I want to comment on the other entries:

I have been watching the progress of Darwin's Grumpy B-24 Diorama build since it was started,
and I've voiced a lot of "oohs" and "ahs" as it evolved. It was a tough choice to put anything ahead
of it (at the end) but I think it probably came down to the actual photos themselves.

Same thing goes for milenio's NCAR Hercules display. Gerardo has always put a lot of
work into his model displays and goes to a lot of trouble to promote and support
modeling and historical subjects. There is no question he created another fabulous
presentation...but in the end, I had to judge what I saw based on the photo quality
and composition.

Bobby Six's Sea Vixen is a great looking build, along with Dalmi's Spanish Air Force Texan.
Did you notice the Pilot figure Dalmi handcrafted? complete with his own face?!
Both excellent entries, but lacking the final presentation wow factor I was looking for
to earn either of the top spots.

Anyway, congratulations to all...prizes have been sent.
And thankyou to those who participated.
Please view all the entry photos in the Galleries.
Maybe we will give this a try again next year.

Sorry for the delay here! I dont get on as often as I like and when I do I poke around doing admin type stuff

These are some fabulous entries! Great photography and really digging the dioramas! I would love to see a closeup of that busted up engine in the crash site. Darwin has tons of excellent models in the distant background on his too, look awesome all around!
