Well, after some discussion I believe we have decided upon a final answer - the WAK P-38 Lightning. It fits my love affair with twin boom, is a kit that Rick already has in his collection and allows a bit of simplifying on his side as he also has the laser-cut frames. I'll be looking for a build thread

Good choice indeed....
Probably one of the most difficult Halinski aircraft kits there is. Rick, to help you along, here is a build thread of that kit over at the Card Army forum:
P-38G LIGHTNING 3-4/2008 I have been following this build with envy and awe, truly the ultimate in masterful work that I should think Dan will expect no less of from you. Get to cuttin' lad..... Mike

Oh how ruthless you are - Rick just lost Stanley Cup with Flyers and you guys want to punish him. Where I come from we're taught to show mercy to the defeated. :-D
Great thread Mike, I especially admired the work with the fuselage. Very smooth lines he produces. |

Well, this -38 might not take off.
I started to look at the laser cut formers last night, and came to a discovery that is causing me to rethink this kit. There are 3 sheets of formers, 2 of them are for the tail booms, mirror images of each piece. There is on one of the sheets, I believe the right side boom, 3 pieces where the holes in the former are miss cut, all the other internal holes and slots are correct, but those three are glaring. I am willing to offer the GPM CH-53 Stallion as a replacement. I have the wheels, laser cut formers, and cockpit glass for this kit too. I will let Dan make the decision Rick

So be it - the Stallion it is! We don't have too many really good Copter builds - so this one should be very nice!

Well Rick, looks like you back-peddled your way out of a Halinski build. At the very least, I would hope we'll see this GPM kit as a WIP at this years IPMC? Mike

Mike,
I have both -38s from Halinski and WAK, and for the WAK edition, I have the formers, but they have the errors i described above. Plus Dan ok'ed the switch to the WAK kit because I had the former sheets and Yes, I hope to have something of a Stallion as a WIP for IPMC in October (have you registered yet?)
