Dave,

Sorry, to hear of your loss. Best wishes for a full recovery!

dang blasted 0's & 1's....

Wish there was something more I could do to help, you helped me recover my data last winter when my drive crashed, that tells me you know best what to do!

Best regards,
Mike Bauer

I’m really sorry to hear this. I’ve been watching this thread in hopes that you can recover at least some of your files. Similar things have probably happened to all of us. It is such a sickening feeling though.

Thanks again guys

As I said before, many things can be replaced in time.
Collected stuff from the Net can be replaced.
I have already recovered a lot of jpegs and Gifs.
Many personal images/photos have been duplicated or backed up over the years.

I am saddened by the potential loss of a large amount of photos of airbrush art.
(I still am not sure how much might have been copied in other places)
I photograph every art job I do...but since getting a PC, I stopped printing
photos and now just save them on the computer.
A lot of this artwork is long gone and the photos can't be reshot.

The two biggest issues are the loss of actual "working" files, like the base Corel files for card models and other art projects.
And, all my base working files for all the websites I have built and maintain.

I am notifying people right now who own certain websites.
This is probably my biggest headache, because not only will it takes weeks and months to rebuild these sites, but I can only do one at a time.
I have about 12 sites to rebuild.
And theres no money to be made in rebuilding the sites.

I am still in the process of sorting through recovered data...its remotely possible that there are more Corel files in the bunch. (I have found a few unimportant ones so far)
The website templates are unretrievable though.

....

on a lighter note, I am actually preparing two new Hercs for release!
lol
These are simple enough, because I can work from the already released PDF files
and just make the necessary changes (different aircraft numbers and markings)

If I don't find the PT Boat design files...
I have already decided to cut up the prototype I have been building.
I'm sure I can scan all the individual parts and use that as a starting point to rebuild a pattern.
Not the ideal way of doing it, but better than starting from scratch.

...

Once again guys, I appreciate the support and helpful thoughts.

Dave

I know the pain of a disk loss all too well. But I also know a program mentioned in this thread earlier is one of the best for recovery.

Zero Assumption Recovery - Data Recovery Software, Solutions, Tutorials, Forum - ZAR Data Recovery - is one of, if not the best program I found to get back lost data. Using it, I have been able to recover images I lost on CF cards after formatting the card. I've also found items from years ago which deleted off my hard drive. It is an amazing program and might just be your saving grace.

If all you did was format it.
Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download should bring it all back
and it's free software.

however if after you formatted you wrote to the disk any files you wrote over will be gone.

Yep, sounds worthy. Dave, set up a pay pal account and I will pitch in a few bucks. I like your work. I would be glad to help out as much as I can.

just wanted to say thanks again for all the support!

TANKS AND BIG GUNS!

oh...and Lauren...

YOU DA MAN BRUTHA!!

This afternoon, I had just about given up...
and was settling in to go through what little files it looked like I was going to find.

I have run two free Data recovery softwares.
Highly recommended programs.
Worked exactly liked I expected them too.
Didn't recover what I needed to.
But did recover a lot of stuff.

the task of going through hundreds and hundreds of unnamed folders,
and unnamed files and trying to sort it all
was beginning to look like a nightmarish effort though.

And of course, by now, I have run two recoveries and moved files here and there...which is destroying any further chance of finding stuff..

OR IS IT?!

Lauren...I just went and got ZAR data recovery...
and know what?

it has found at least as much as the other two programs
AND! IT FOUND:
all my current model project files
all the corel files
the PT Boat file
my current Koolwheelz files

IT EVEN FOUND MY WEBSITE USER FILES!!!!!!!!!

and heres the best part...everything can be recovered in its original directory tree!
all in its original folders and everything.

Now... it looks like there is still a lot of missing and corrupted files,
mostly jpegs and other images, music files, etc, but I can live with that.

This is only their free download version...apparently it only will extract 8 folders (or something like that)
I have to go buy a License now that will allow it to extract all the files.
Its about $60

But thats a lot better than the hundreds you guys were telling me earlier! LOL

.....

I can't tell you how relieved I am...this has been a long 24 hours...
and even if I don't get everything back, just to have that current work and those Website user files back is worth it!

....

As I said before, this isn't anyone elses problem but mine
and I don't expect anyone else to pay for it!

But... if anyone still wants to help out...go to my website www.cutandfold.info
download one of my free models
and throw me a dollar or two to help toward the costs of the strorage and hosting of the free models.
(use the donation link located on my site... through paypal)

I'm off right now to buy the ZAR license and then hopefully open up a PT Boat file!!!
woohoo!!!

and I highly recommend, if anyone ever gets in this spot,
ZAR data recovery is the program that really works!!
