KoolWheelz Land Speederz
So, it looks like I have created a monster!
What started out as a couple of Land Speed Record cars (Bluebird and the Bud Rocket Car) has turned into a whole new series! The KoolWheelz Land Speederz... Land Speed Record models! It all started with my KoolWheelz rendition of the 1936 Railton Bluebird... ... And then, just recently, the Budweiser Rocket Car: ... And now.... inspired by one of my favorite films: The World's Fastest Indian I present Burt Munro's 1920 Indian Scout which set a Land Speed record that still stands today! Fastest "under 1000cc class" with an average speed of 183.5mph and a top speed of 190mph. In fact, Burt set three world records among his ten trips to the Bonneville Salt Flats. Anyway, its an awkward little model...very hard to capture the shape in such a small simplified paper model. I had hoped to keep to 1/64 scale...about the same as the Bud Rocket Car and Bluebird, but it would just be way too small to build. So I bumped it up until I was able to build it myself. Overall length is 9cm (about 3.5") And then there's the issue of standing...it won't! lol At least, not very well. the tires are wide enough that it can be balanced, but it topples over a lot. Just like the real thing! I'm including a small Burt Munro standee...just lean the bike against his knees!

Could you be persuaded to add the original Triumph Bonneville to that line up Dave? I suppose it should be more correctly referred to as the Bonneville Triumph than a Triumph Bonneville though.
With or without it's outriggers, I don't mind.

To be honest...I hadn't planned on any bikes (other than the Indian)
...but the Triumph Streamliner is very kool! Not as kool as the Gyronaut X-1, but still kool. I'll need to find more photos from various angles... figure out a method of doing it "koolwheelz" style, and then...maybe...we'll see. .... In the meantime, ponder this... wouldn't this be a kool sight?!

"...but the Triumph Streamliner is very kool!
Not as kool as the Gyronaut X-1, but still kool." Ah, but the Gyronaut didn't lead to a production run that is still available. Yep, you can still buy a new Triumph Bonneville, but there's few people rich enough that would want one. 'cept me o'course, but I don't like noo fings. and 'er indoors won't let me 'ave a motorbike anyways. Any one want an old (but very good) Range Rover Classic? I've tired of it now and I want a Triumph Herald, but she won't let me have both. So the RRC has to go before I can bring the Herald home. I've already bought it, but don't tell the Mrs that, right!

Three years later (1959) Triumph named a new bike Bonneville, in honour of where the Streamliner had set its speed records. Thats all. The Gyronaut was Triumph powered too. But set faster records. And was the precursor to the 400 mph Gyronaut X-2 (V8 Cobra). And the pre-precursor to the jet powered X-3 which would break the sound barrier. Okay...so they never happened. but the Gyronaut went 264 mph! ...on its side, through the time trap! (It had lost control at over 270mph) I agree with you John. I agree the Streamliner is kool. If and when I get around to another LSR Bike, the Streamliner will be first choice. ... Now, lets get back to 1000mph racecars. ... Did I mention 1000+mph racecars?

Didya see Campbell's original BlueBird run at Pendine Sands last week?
Land speed record-breaker Blue Bird at Pendine for 90th anniversary - BBC News Sounded great, but a gear box problem wouldn't let it run wild. Apparently the Toyota camera truck kept over taking it. Oooh the shame.
