The 1906 Stanley "Rocket" was arguably the grand-daddy of all land speed record breakers. It would look tiny next to its speedy successors (more akin to a soapbox derby racer in size and appearance), but still historically important.

"landspeeder" has been on my koolwheelz to-do list for some time.
... re...suggestions for LSR models... How do I answer that without being rude? I think this is nothing more than another small sidetrack. I don't want it to become a major "thing". Four LSR models...and some interest from an outside group... have already prompted me to create a separate category. (I plan on listing these models in their own group within the KoolWheelz pages.) I don't know how many more LSR models I will do, or when. I don't know what subjects I will tackle. I do know that I have to have some personal interest in the subject and I have to feel comfortable* with the design. *There are plenty of cars that I would love to create as paper models, but they can't be done as single page koolwheelz models or they are not within my comfort zone (skill set) to design. So they won't ever become part of the collection. Craig Breedlove cars, for example, are a big deal to me...along with all the Campbell cars. But most are just too complicated in design...too many curves and swoopy doos. To try to do them as simple, small scale models with low part count... I am not even gonna think about them.

I'm really looking forward to the running of the Bloodhound SSC next year.
I think its one of the best looking LSRs in a long while. Although I love the accomplishments, I didn't like the look and styling of the last two Thrust cars. But can you imagine going more than 1000mph?!!! I couldn't wait to try a koolwheelz version! As soon as I finished the Burt Munro Indian, I started on the Bloohound SSC. But I wasn't sure if it was going to work as a koolwheelz model. I think this has to be the biggest LSR to date? And to keep it in scale, I was unsure if it would work as a single page model. So the challenge was to simplify it down to as few parts as possible. And, this is the result... Final length of the model is just over 200mm...about 8" And I think that keeps it around 1/64 scale. Its another advanced build...mostly because of the nose. That pointy, curved, four sided shape, is a pain in the butt to put together! The model shown in these photos is my second attempt ...and I have made further changes to the final (release) version. Since the Bloodhound's design and paint scheme has changed a few times, and the final car has yet to be assembled (and decorated)... I am using one of the website mockups to place a few decals and sponsors on the model. I claim no accuracy in that respect. the final car might look altogether different. I have to say, its one of my favorite koolwheelz models to date. It was a lot of fun to design and I think it looks great (for a single page model). ... Next step is to finish the Indian Scout and Bloodhound model pages and get them added to the download section! I'll post an announcement as soon as they are ready.

Thanks for designing all these LSRs. It brings back fond memories of how hotly the record was contested in the Sixties. I actually got to see the Green Monster drag race at National Speedway (Long Island) as a birthday present. Maybe 1970? For whatever reason, these numbers still stick in my head - I think it did the quarter in 5.6 seconds at 254mph. I'd have to research it to confirm though. |

Okay boys and girls!
The new LSR models are up! I have subdivided the LSR cars from the Racerz group. Just look to the bottom of that group. Koolwheelz Racerz As always...please send me pics of your builds and if you have any problems, don't hesitate to ask for help. And as always, if you like the free stuff, reward me with a purchase from ecardmodels. ... On the Bloodhound SSC.... I think its tricky enough to require a basic assembly diagram. But there just isn't enough room on the page. (Unlike the Indian Scout...where I had plenty of room to include an assembly diagram!) So, I have made up an assembly page for the Bloodhound, you can download it here: koolwheelz bloodhound ssc instructions ...

Thank you, Dave. For some reason LSR vehicles have been overlooked as modeling subjects for way too long. Your designs are helping to fill that void. I just recently viewed The World's Fastest Indian once again. One of my favs as well.
