Just starting on the Mustang - haven't had much non-work time, but I'll catch up.

Here's another photo. I think I've sussed it now. I was uploading straight from the tablet camera, here I've uploaded from the photo gallery.

WHOA! Hold the Horses!

I see an error both you guys have made.
And it looks like it is partly my fault.

Okay...a lot my fault.
But you are also not paying attention!

You have both creased and folded the rear Deck lid, just ahead of the Spoiler.
And I can see that the fold line indicator on the Model sheet is misleading.

You have to crease and fold the end of the sloping fastback (where it transitions into the trunk lid).
But you don't crease and fold right across the rear fenders!
The fold (dotted) line on the model sheet doesn't properly show this.

BUT...the fold line is a dotted line...not a dashed fold line (like all the other fold lines).
This indicates a different type of fold...a "valley" fold (since everything else is "mountain fold").
You are not paying attention and "valley" folding!

I am going to update the Model sheet so it is better understood (not to crease the fenders.
Sorry about that.

I did score it as a valley (underside), but I think I scored it all the way across. As I was assembling, it was getting wonky back there and didn't seem quite right. Ultimately I applied glue and hoped for the best-- I did say in my post this was likely a test build !

Thanks for the catch, I'll print the updated version and try again.

You don't score as a "valley" or "mountain".
These terms have nothing to do with scoring.
The terms refer to how you fold the paper.

Always looking at the outside/printed side of the part, if you fold away its a "mountain".
If you fold toward yourself, its a "valley".

I can see in your photos, that you folded as mountain, not valley.

These terms have everything to do with scoring (and folding), and I absolutely score as mountain or valley. I score mountain folds on the printed side, and valley folds on the non-printed side. I find if I valley fold a score line on the printed side, there can be some bunching (only word I can think of) along the fold. I don't think I'm the only one who scores folds like this.

I scored it as a valley fold, but all the way across. Once I valley folded all the way across, it wasn't working out. In order to glue it & make it fit, it ended up a mountain fold.

But looking at the updated version, it does make more sense to me now. I'll give it another go.

The reference to "valley" or "mountain" fold always applies to the visible side.
In this case, the printed or outside of the car body.

You may be applying it to your scoring method, but as a build instruction
it refers only to the folding direction (nothing to do with how you score).

You may decide to score on the reverse side of the paper,
but you are still folding in relation to the front/outside/face!

AND...you folded the rear of your model in a "mountain".
I can see it in your photo.
So, you scored for mountain fold (regardless of whether you scored on the outside or inside).

I agree that some folks like to score on a particular side for each type of fold.
(Although that method is debatable...since the side you score on is stretched by the scoring tool
and therefore easier to be stretched as the outside of your fold.
I think scoring on the inside of a fold only works with corrugated cardboard.

Ok, "uncle". You win the semantics war. There's no such thing as mountain scoring or valley scoring.

All I'm trying to say is this: I scored on the underside because the fold instruction was a valley fold (so solely for my own personal reference, I call that a "valley score"). I initially folded it as a valley fold, but all the way across, including the fenders. I now know that is incorrect. I couldn't get it to fit as I had initially valley folded it, and ultimately just forced it to fit. It ended up as a slight mountain fold in order to get it glued all the way across the rear.

Regarding the efficacy of scoring all on one side vs scoring different sides for different folds: I think there's a lot of variables that come in to play here-- paper type & quality, scoring tool, how much pressure applied. I've experimented a lot, as I'm sure most have, and the method I use works for my combination of variables.

One advantage to scoring on both sides is that once you've cut the scored piece out of the sheet, it's easy to tell which way you should fold.

Any Physics teachers here?

It really makes me wonder if my scoring method is compacting the paper fibers or stretching them out ... or both, I suppose.

My gut tells me that when I score, the paper tends to bend towards the side the score was done. But that may be a result of my method used...
