I've been building these cars for a number of years and running them in my own drag game. Glad there is now an official Kool Wheels Classic Dragracing game to use them with as well.
Game ordered! |

Thank you. Please feel free to share what Koolwheelz models you've already built and more about your "own drag [racing] game". The Kool Wheelz game does include some "basic" paper models and purchasers get access to a set of "premium" paper model race cars. Just to clarify, this isn't really the "official Kool Wheelz" game (re Koolwheelz models), even though it does include small paper race cars, and a similar name. I set out to design a tabletop game that could use any small diecast toys (which a lot of people already have at home). But when creating the game, I felt it would also be fun to tie it into my paper model work and thats why I included some paper models right in the Instruction booklet. And that's how the name came about.

Thanks for clarifying Dave. I am a huge fan of Drag Racing, most especially the 60's & 70's era. I play quite a few different Drag Racing games as well as working on one super modified Vallco game and my own. Here are a few of my builds from your collection. The Mongoose Tooned Duster was printed on a metallic sheen card, but its hard to see it in the low lit photo. ![]() More recently I built your 2 of your more modern style Funny Cars... ![]() You can see Don 70'Cuda in the background mid-build. Thanks for making all of these wonderful car models from real life to Hot Wheels. Great stuff. And I'm looking forward to getting your game and playing it. Will ps. I see you are also a big fun of the golden era drag racing... if you haven't already heard of Vallco Drag Racing the Game Board-game. It was created by a Drag Racer and Sports Writer (Greg Zyla) in the mid 70's and produced with updates up to 1980. He had permission to use most of the known name drivers at the time and he produced an excellent game that recreates Pro Stock, Funny Car, Pro-Mod and Top Fuel drag racing. All the drivers stats are derived from their statistics for the year, so they perform accurately to the year. Anyway, it's long out of print, but copies are available on ebay... but BUT Greg was kind enough to scan all the materials in and release them as a Purchasable PDF on his website for $24. zylamotorsports.com What would be awesome would be to see all of those (or most of them) recreated as paper models.... especially the ProStock & Funny Car classes. You've done a few already. Last edited by WillOhio; 03-12-2025 at 08:07 PM. |

Those are some very nice builds! Well done.
You said it: "created in the mid-70s" long before every racer and sponsor started protecting their copyrighted names and logos. Now, I can't use anything historically accurate for fear of legal action! lol I wanted to recreate some of the more well known race cars, like Snake and Mongoose, in the game, but that would have prompted companies like Mattel, Coca-Cola, and many others, to interfere. And the company that produces my games carefully inspects and won't print games that have copyright infringements. I chose to be more general and try to recreate some of classes and styles of race cars in drag racing of the golden era. I have seen the Drag Racing game you speak of. It is a more technically complicated "game", using actual driver and car stats as well as track surface conditions and more to simulate an entire event of racing on paper. Looks like a lot of fun for for those who are really into the technical side of cars and racing. My game is a bit less serious and more cards, dice and paper drag racers! ![]()
