McHale, that is an 1858 remington 44. It is also a moderernized version as the originals were fixed sights.

mchale, cmdrted,
that is interesting that the pistol says Colt .44 caliber. I suspect that is only refering to the caliber. It is, however a modern version of a Remington Model 1858 in .44 caliber. Modernized refers to the non-standard sights. Is it Nickel or Stainless? ...hard to tell from the photos. Great piece. thanks for sharing. I've attached some photos for reference. Jeff |

Have to agree with the rest, it is indeed a Remington New Army reproduction, hence the sights difference, a bow to modern technology and an ability to enhance an original design. The .44 Colt on the side of the barrel probably does try to indicate the size of the round ball that it would accept rather than a manufacturers' designation.

Not sure what it's doing with .44 Colt stamped on anything. Round ball size for a .44 Remington should be specified in the book if you have it (and they ain't the same diameter as .44 cartridge ammo). It sounds like the barrel may have been swapped from something else - worth getting a gunsmith to take a look before attempting to shoot it. Gunsmith can also give you the specs for the ball ammo and percussion caps needed.
