Ok, just a bump - hopefully an inspirational one. One of the things we hope to do at the Grasshopper Gathering this year is to show a new film that's in pre-release form right now that tells the story of these aircraft. Thought I'd show you a screenshot that just might hopefully give someone the inspiration to try and design a Stinson L-5.

That would be General Patton talking with commanders just before boarding his L-5 to hop to the next point.

Nice picture Ryan, and a good suggestion to make an L-5. Once done, an L-5 (or an L-4)model could be adapted to include a Brodie Rig for flying off of LSTs.

Check out this link:
www.aerofiles.com/brodie-rig.html

A small museum ( http://www.americanwings.org/ ) near me has an L-4 with a Brodie Rig but there is no picture on the website.

The film's got actual Brodie hookups on it!
Also, I've got a copy of the patent with drawings of the stuff.

L-2/O-57 info

For the L-2 fans, a site with original blueprints at:

http://www.taylorcraft.org/extras/l2_blueprints.html

For something different, tho' not exactly for the L builds, there is drawing G-A10 at the bottom of the Disc 3 list for the 3-views of the glider version :D.

Regards,
John

Sweet! Nice going Roman!
I got checked out in the L-5 about two weeks ago and flew it four times on Saturday... First flight was a 163rd Liaison Squadron Veteran who flew it on Okinawa. He hadn't been in the type for 63 years! Last 3 flights were in a flying competition, and the nice little L-5 flew just like I wanted it to! Won both competitions.

Interested in some more information? The rear fuselage doesn't look quite right. There are some pictures of our L-5 that you can view in the albums linked below:

http://picasaweb.google.com/historicbattles/ - album 6 has some good shots, but there are pictures of the L-5 in the others as well.
http://picasaweb.google.com/doolittleraiders/WIXpics - this folder has some OLD L-5 pictures. Note that there are TWO styles of L-5 - the original version with the more observer-friendly rear canopy, and (my favorite but not as nice looking) the ambulance version that has the more slab-sided and topped rear area with the capability of hauling a stretcher case inside. The veteran I flew said that on Okinawa, if a front-line soldier got wounded badly, it would take them about 3 hours to transport the man to the hospital by ground vehicles. The L-5s ran an ambulance run to the front lines almost all the time, and they could get a man back to the hospital in something closer to 15 minutes!

Sometime I need to upload some pictures from this weekend's event... when I have a good (non-dial-up) connection.

Ryan

Hi Ryan!

I making the original L-5 version because of nice colour scheme (Miss Ziggy, if you know). Could you tell more about fuselage?

Roman.
