Ferret Armoured Car

A paper model kit I would like to see is the Daimler Ferret Armoured Car.

There is no paper kit for this - indeed there are no plastic kits either. Some resin kits are available and some white metal kits.

It would make a really nice paper model - no curves in the body. Plus there are a number of different variants on the same basic body, so one could make up quite a few variations.

This Panhard AML 90 Model is extremely similar, is free, a little modern, actually replaced the Ferret and is one of the most detailed models i have ever seen. I know it's not a Ferret, and hope this isn't off topic or offending in anyway. I just thought this would be interesting, seeing how it evolved, in theory , from the Ferret.

Wow, realize I don't build armor but even I know that one. Really suprised there's no plastic kit of it. Just took some shots of one at a British car show a few months ago.

The UN bought a few of them for the Irish army when they went for peacekeeping to the Congo in the Sixties. I think they even had one when I was young when training for the Lebanon back in the early seventies.

I would love a model of the Ferret, there seems to be a lack of models of British military vehicles from that period,I would love a large model of a Centurion MBT as well as the Alvis family of Saracen,Saladin,Stalwart and the crash tender Salamander.

Tamiya do a 1/35th scale Daimler Dingo, which is the ferret without the turret. I built one way back in the 1970's, still have it.

The Australian Army used Ferrets for many years. Attached is one on poles at Enoggera (Army base in Brisbane). It shouldn't be a hard design task because they are made from flat plates.

Regards,

Charlie

Ferrets were used by tons of countries aside from the British Army - who used them all over the world - from deserts to snow to jungle to plains to urban environments. Users included........

Australia, Burkina Faso, Canada, Congo, France, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Lebanon, Malaysia, Madagascar, Nepal, New Zealand, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Portugal, Rhodesia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Saint Kitts and Nevis, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Uganda, United Nations, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Zambia, as well as many others!!!!

Thats why it could be made in variations of many colour schemes!
