oh man...I have been wanting to do a Tank model for some time
...but they've all been done!!

A while back, I saw a request for a WW1 Tank that I got all excited about...
and then some Tank expert beat me to the punch...and did a great job with it!

I started reading this thread a few minutes ago,
and thought "wow that is a unique and interesting vehicle...I could do this!!!"

I got all excited.
In seconds, I started planning my design.

then I got to Corey's posts! LOL
sheesh I need to learn to read quicker!

I can just imagine some of the crazy tank designs that never saw any light.
With nothing else for reference, there was probably no end to the weird ideas.

...

CT, if I could make one judgement.
The top corners...would not be curved.
The top (front and rear) would be an angled flat plate.
Maybe 20 or 30 degrees from vertical?

A tank built off a road roller ... still having a hard time grasping that, but at the same time it makes sense. If the wheels had those metal flanges like old steel tractor tires, it could do a little cross-country activity. Definitely an interesting vehicle.

Try this page for lots of WWI vehicles. Mostly armored cars and mostly fotos of models, but enough to get you thinking!

And then there were tons of post and inter war designs. Lots of great stuff still out there just waiting to be designed in paper!

At a guess the rear wheels may have been similar to traction engine drive wheels (attached). Possibly the front roller had similar flutes as well.

What scale are you thinking about? I'd certainly be interested if it was 1/25.
Judging by the images it looks as if was painted in a single fairly pale colour perhaps "gris-artillerie".

Regards,

Charlie

Probably the safest place to be though...

Air Dave, feel free to jump in on a large scale highly detailed model of this. My model will be on the same scale as my other Laffly armored cars, 1/72 scale. I like the smaller scale, but I know there is a want for bigger models, and I do not think I am up for that just yet. Mine will be mostly printed details, but a larger model could do the raised rivets and so on.

sorry if that came across like stepping on your toes.
it wasn't meant that way!

I am serious though...I have thought about some of these old Tanks before.

I also want to look into Chris' suggestion...I remember earlier discussion about some of the armoured cars.
I just want to keep the variety going...Uboats- cars - planes- PT Boat - etc

Thanks CT!

I actually have a very good (if rather small) book on the autocar.

It seems highly probable it will find its way to your email by tomorrow.

Even if nothing comes of it, its at least an interesting read.
